Prescription Weight Loss Medication
All our weight loss programmes include the option of appetite suppressant medication, which are clinically tested and carefully prescribed by our GMC-registered doctors based on your medical requirements to ensure it is safe for you.
If prescription weight loss medication becomes part of your weight loss treatment, they will be prescribed and dispensed to you directly from your doctor after a thorough medical health check. All costs for prescription medication are included in our programme prices.
About Our Weight Loss Medication
Many individuals are understandably apprehensive about weight loss medication, including whether it is safe to use. All of our prescription weight loss medication is clinically tested and completely safe to use to gradually aid your weight loss. By choosing the medication route with The Slimming Clinic, you can be assured that your fully qualified weight loss doctor will carefully guide you through how appetite suppressants work and how they will aid your personal journey. We never recommend purchasing medication for weight loss from an unreliable source, as you can never be sure of their exact ingredients or whether they will be safe for you.
It is important to note that your clinic doctor will only prescribe medication that is safe and effective for you as a weight loss treatment. This is assessed based on your medical history and existing lifestyle. They will explain how the weight loss medication will aid your journey and any potential side effects you may experience. They will also monitor you closely throughout your weight loss journey to ensure you are getting the best and safest results.
Our hunger suppressant medications are not prescribed to completely take away your appetite. Instead, they simply suppress/reduce your appetite, so you have more control of your hunger and begin to adjust to new, healthier eating habits. Prescription weight loss medication is a tool to aid behaviour changes to encourage weight loss success alongside help and support from our doctors, dietitians, mind coaches, movement coaches and more. It allows you to focus on achieving the perfect balance of the health and lifestyle changes needed to keep weight off in the long-term.
Appetite Suppressant Pills
We offer two types of appetite suppressant medication at The Slimming Clinic: Phentermine and Diethylpropion. These are tablet medications that alter the release of chemical messengers within the hypothalamus, which is the appetite control centre of the brain. This causes appetite suppression and reduced huger perception, giving you more control over your hunger and cravings. In turn, this helps to prevent over-eating, falling back into bad habits, all whilst adapting to a healthier way of living. Find out more about how our appetite suppressant pills work in our Q&A with Dr Jane Glazebrook, one of our weight loss doctors.
Saxenda® contains the active drug Liraglutide, which is similar to a naturally occurring hormone (GLP-1) that is released by the digestive system after consuming food.
This weight loss medication comes in injection form and works in a very similar way to our tablets. It safely controls your hunger through acting on receptors in the appetite control centre of the brain. As well as this, Saxenda® also postpones the emptying of your stomach, causing you to feel fuller quicker and for a longer period of time.
By reducing your appetite, Saxenda® will help you maintain a calorie-controlled diet in the long run and achieve your lifelong weight loss goals. Medical studies have shown patients treated with Saxenda® achieve significantly more weight loss and maintain that loss compared to patients who undertake dieting alone.
There are minimal side-effects with Saxenda®, which usually settle within the first weeks of treatment if they occur. Your doctor will be able to help you manage these if they occur.
Xenical is a safe and effective prescription weight loss medication that works by blocking the uptake of up to 30% of dietary fat in each meal. Fat has the highest calories per gram of any of the major food groups with 9 calories per gram, compared to 4 calories per gram in protein and carbohydrates.
By reducing the amount of fat absorbed within the body, Xenical reduces the number of calories consumed that meal. This helps you to achieve your required calorie deficit to effectively aid your weight loss.
When taking Xenical, you should aim to eat three main meals each day. Our friendly team of medical professionals at our clinics will help you to develop a diet that is rich in fruit and vegetables, with your daily intake of fat, carbohydrates and protein distributed over these three main meals. Xenical weight loss medication should be taken before, during or within one hour of these meals.
